OVERVIEW

This 1 day workshop is designed to cover fundamentals of camera, lighting, photography genres and post-processing. Topics that we will delve into are below (time permitting we can do more!)

Introduction to Digital Photography

Get a flair of what all is discussed in the realm of photography - expose yourself to what is out there and build a context. This

helps to narrow down your interest as you further your skill. A short but interesting primer into digital photography.

  • Lifecyle of an image
  • What is digital photography?
  • Different types of digital cameras (DSLR/Mirrorless)?
  • Genres of Photography
  • Equipments/Gears
  • File formats

Composition

Photography is perspective followed by technology. An important aspect of perspective is determing how you want to capture an image. Lets discuss some know rules as well as know how to break them to let your creativity rule!

  • The rule of thirds
  • Leading lines
  • Negative space
  • Exceptions

Metering & Exposure

Photography and Image is all about light. Lets understand how the camera interprets light thereby realising the image you intend to capture.

  • Exposure triangle (aperture, shutter speed, ISO)
  • How to overexpose and underexpose an image
  • Evaluative metering
  • Spot metering
  • Center-weighted metering
  • Shooting modes - Manual, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority

Focussing Techniques

What part of the image do you want to focus? How do we create maximum impact by focussing on the right aspects? How does it differ between capturing images of subjects and landscape?

  • Single-point focus
  • Continuous focus
  • Manual focus

Editing and Post-Processing

Images straight out of the camera are not suitable for consumption (unless you use JPEG which we will understand why not to use!) This section covers the basic workflow to get the image out in the way you expect it to be.

  • Understanding white balance
  • Processing images for social media vs printing
  • Lightroom - Basic editing techniques (e.g., cropping, resizing, adjusting brightness and contrast)
  • Lightroom - Key advanced technique - Masks
